Perfect for the campfire, Hobo Dinners have come to the rescue of healthy campers everywhere!
They are so full of flavor and smoky goodness that you will soon prefer these over any ol' hot dog on a stick...
We are planning on doing a lot of camping this year, so trust me I am on the hunt for camping recipes... Currently, I am trying to find a recipe for healthy rice treats! Who does any type of outdoor activity without Rice Krispies? I'll be sure to try them out and post them later!
Sorry, I get distracted easily when it comes to sweets. Back to the topic on hand. Hobo dinners are perfect for every member of the family because they can put whatever they want in there. So for picky eaters, I would give this recipe an A+. It so versatile everyone wins!
Not to mention you don't have to have massive anxiety over grilling and trying to keep up with everyone's demands and preferences all at once...
These can be prepped and cooked individually so whatever time the kiddos want to throw it in the fire and for how long, it can be completely up to them!
Tip #1: These can be prepped ahead of time at home for light packing and the ingredients can be stored in a container (if no meat is included) or thrown in an ice chest for all those clean eaters or mwfpb (modified whole food plant-based).
Tip #2: Sauces make this dish come alive. Working on a homemade BBQ recipe right now! But you can use curry powder and coconut milk, a teriyaki sauce with garlic, honey, liquid aminos.
Tip #3: Make sure you double wrap the hobo dinners so that none of the juices leak out! You want the shiny or reflective side of the aluminum foil to be inward to help with the cooking of the meal.
Because Lish covers several different categories of healthy lifestyles, these are perfect for us. Let's cover what will work for each group.
If you are vegan or vegetarian wfpb you can cut up white potatoes, corn, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, anything the heart desires and then top it with some great seasonings and sauces. If you would like you can add mock meat like tofu although I have never tried mock meats, so that is at your own risk.
You could do a hobo dinner lettuce or cabbage wrap and roll it up after it's cooked and cooled.
if you are just a clean eater or on modified whole food plant-based. You can add things like lean meats such as, turkey burger, chicken, turkey bacon. Red meat is something to try to definitely avoid!
Of course, you can always add sauces and wraps to this as well... all the better!
Now on to the base recipe
